On Wednesday, November 28, 2018, Colin Norman Wilkinson, loving husband, father of three daughters and two stepsons passed away at the age of 92. Colin was born on December 23, 1925 in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, England to Norman and Lena Wilkinson. He served in Her Majesty’s Royal Marines from 1943-1945, and attained the rank of Captain at the age of 19. His unit took the Japanese surrender in Hong Kong. He also served in India and Burma. He earned his Bachelor of Commerce in 1947 from Durham University, England. He emigrated from England to Canada in 1951 and worked for several corporations, including Chrysler and Blue Cross Blue Shield. He eventually moved his family to Michigan to be closer to work.

Colin had a passion for life. In his prime, he was an excellent golfer, a world traveler, a successful business executive and entrepreneur, a gardener and a chef. In retirement, he took up boating, hiking and most recently, writing. He published his first novel, A Taste of Evil, a mystery, at 90 and had just finished his sequel, The Devil’s Apprentice a month before his death.

With all of these unique gifts, Colin will most be remembered by his family for his love, kindness and zest for life. He is survived by his wife, Sylvia Jacqueline, his daughters Anne Wilkinson-Burke (Preston), Victoria Birk Hill (Howard) and Pamela Kelly (James), his sister Maureen Barlow (Michael), his stepsons Daniel Doletzky (Rose) and Steven Doletzky (Davina), 11 grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. Visitation is Friday, December 14, 2018 from 3:00 to 8:00 PM at Chas. Verheyden, Inc., 16300 Mack Ave, Grosse Pointe Park. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 15th, 2018 at Christ Church Grosse Pointe, 61 Grosse Pointe Boulevard at 10:30 AM. Lunch will follow.
